Why choose a balm or butter instead of a cream or lotion?

Most conventional creams and lotions are water-based, which means they contain water as a primary ingredient. Because water can support microbial growth, these products generally require preservatives and stabilisers to maintain product safety and shelf life.

Our balms and butters are anhydrous, meaning they contain no added water. Instead, they are made from oils, butters, waxes and other nourishing ingredients.

Some people prefer anhydrous skincare because of the following characteristics:

Concentrated Formulations

Without water as a primary ingredient, anhydrous products consist entirely of oils, butters and waxes, creating concentrated formulations with fewer ingredients.

Longer Shelf Life

Because they do not contain water, anhydrous products are generally less susceptible to microbial growth and often have naturally longer shelf lives.

Fewer Preservatives

Many anhydrous products can be formulated with fewer preservatives than water-based products, which appeals to people seeking simpler ingredient lists.

Rich Moisturising Properties

Balms and butters create a protective layer on the skin that helps reduce moisture loss and supports the skin's natural barrier.

Suitable for Dry or Mature Skin

Many people with dry, mature or dehydrated skin enjoy the rich, nourishing feel of anhydrous skincare products.

Versatility

Balms can often be used in multiple ways—as facial moisturisers, lip balms, hand creams, cuticle treatments and overnight treatments.

As with any skincare product, individual preferences and skin types vary. We always recommend patch testing new products before use.

Where do you source your ingredients from?

We carefully select ingredients that are known for their beneficial skin properties and endeavour to use organic, cold-pressed oils wherever possible.

Most of our oils are sourced through certified organic suppliers, while a small number of ingredients are sourced locally. For example, our beeswax comes from a local spray-free supplier.

We believe that quality ingredients make quality skincare, which is why we focus on simple formulations made from ingredients we know and trust.

Is it best to reuse, refill or recycle the jars and bottles?

Our first choice is always reuse.

Our glass jars can be refilled with more skincare, or repurposed around the home for plant cuttings, storage and craft projects.

If reuse isn't possible, we encourage recycling wherever facilities exist.

Is your packaging compostable?

Creating minimal waste is incredibly important to us.

Our packaging is primarily paper and cardboard-based and can be either composted or recycled depending on your local facilities.

We are continually looking for ways to reduce waste and improve sustainability across our range.

Do Skindiy products need to be refrigerated?

Refrigeration is not necessary, although some customers enjoy storing their skincare in the fridge, particularly during warmer months.

Like all skincare products, we recommend storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Please note that our Natural Skin Butter and Vanilla Tallow Balm are more heat-sensitive than our balms and may soften or melt when exposed to temperatures above 40°C (104°F).

If your product melts during transit, simply place it in a cool location and allow it to solidify again.

Do you gift wrap?

Yes, we love sending gifts!

Simply select Gift Wrapping at checkout. We offer this as a complimentary service and will beautifully wrap your order and print a personalised gift message for the recipient.

We offer a 3-month subscription service that provides a 5% discount on all pre-made products.

What if I don't love my products?

We want you to be happy with your purchase.

If you're not completely satisfied, please contact us within 7 days of receiving your order at info@skindiy.au and we'll work with you to find a solution, including a refund where applicable.
